March, 2006 - Seven Hills Camera Club of Worcester, Massachusetts, is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2006. Worcester Telegram's Jean Laquidara Hill interviewed photographers of the club at a recent reception at the Gale Free Library in Holden, MA. According to Ms. Laguidara Hill, "The
35 photographs, by 12 members of the Seven Hills Camera Club of
Worcester, demonstrate the classic art of black-and-white photography as
well as the modern art of digitally manipulating a picture. Ms. Fontaine's Dam Reflection and Wet Boardwalk were mentioned in the article as well as numerous other artist's works. |

Dam Reflection was taken in
Woonsocket, Rhode Island, early morning. According to Ms. Fontaine,
"I saw the waterfall and knew there was a special picture in there
somewhere. Working the scene for about a half-hour, the strong diagonal
lines and color of this composition presented itself. It is important to
take the time necessary to see beyond the obvious. I used a tripod and
slowed the shutter speed down just a bit to give the water its soft
look. The early morning light prevented the scene from being too
contrasty, enhancing the blue of the water.
Dam Reflection, Web Boardwalk and City Architecture are representative of a strong graphic-quality style based on real scenes which are not overly digitally manipulated. Being able to use Photoshop to enhance or change a picture is a great advantage, but finding such scenes as Dam Reflection in the real world excite me." For more information, contact |
